You should know that commuting via Danfo in Lagos is a risky sport. Every time you partake in it, say Alhamdulillah that you get to live another day.
As someone who loves her life and is not a cheapskate at all, I thought it best for me to use an unfamiliar mode of transport for my sojourn to work - Bus Rapid Transport.
Was I running late? Yes. Do I like spontaneous things? Rarely. Cocoon me in routines and procedures so I can feel safe and maintain some semblance of discipline.
With no research or questions asked, I hopped into the BRT and swiped my card. Surprise! Surprise!! Same price as Danfo.
At least there should be legroom and no one to squeeze me like that tube of toothpaste you refuse to discard. Ladies and Gentlemen, the bus was parked until all sitting and standing space was occupied. Hehe. This was happening at about twenty minutes past 8:00 am. Guess my resumption time?
Finally, we took off after twenty to thirty minutes of wait time. As a directionally challenged individual, I often put my trust in others like the driver (which is good if you fancy being kidnapped) so that was what I did. I relaxed and waited to hear my bus stop.
During the commute, I dialed my sister to chat about life, then I looked up to see places and buildings I did not recognize. I had to drop the call to stare blankly at the ginormous grey church at CMS as I hear the driver call TBS. None of these places looked or sounded like the route to work. I was over thirty minutes late on an unwanted tour as a metaphorical Israelite in Lagos. Imagine you were H.R. and I said- “I lost my way because I didn’t pay attention or recognize my left from my right on the streets of Lagos”.
After much questioning of the fortunate person seated beside me, I got the assurance I needed. I was not lost; I just took a longer route.
I arrived at the office, a few minutes to 9:00 am, wondering where I could revoke my admission into this adulthood thing.
That is it. That’s the gist. Until next time, my mood is the statement below.
RANDOM: Is there a curriculum that teaches you how to navigate social situations and living as an adult who knows nothing? If you don’t know, at least share my newsletter after you tell me what part of adulting is tripping you up in the comments.

I'm the sister mentioned in the post and I could hear how loud the horn was over the phone.😵💫
